On December 13, 2011 the ‘Peak Education Forum’ was organized by China Education Online, a website under the Chinese Ministry of Education. CUCAS was invited to attend the forum as a representative of the international education sector, with CUCAS Chief Execute Peter Zheng presenting a speech at the forum.

The forum focused on three issues: The selection and cultivation of talented innovators, disparity in school quality and educational fairness, and the recent popularity of studying abroad and the internationalization of education in general. Speaking on the topic of studying abroad in China, CUCAS CEO Peter Zheng told the audience: in 2010, the total number of foreign students studying in China was 265 000 and that The Ministry of Education set a target in 2009 of 500 000 international students in China by 2020. In order to reach this goal, he said,
a detailed and specific plan has to be laid out, one that allows each and every international student who comes to China, to not only achieve the goals of studying Chinese and professional know-how, but also to have a fulfilling and memorable study-abroad experience in China.

The forum was hosted by Che Weimin, head of the International Cooperation Department of the International Student Centre at the Ministry of Education. Mr Wang Li, the deputy director of the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center, and Mr Chen Zhiwen, Chief Editor of China Education Online gave speeches. Also presenting were representatives of the Spanish, British, French, German, Malaysian and Australian Embassies in Beijing who introduced the latest policies in their respective countries regarding international students.

Being invited to such an event can be seen as official recognition of the work that CUCAS has done in this field, and as an expression of the hope that CUCAS will continue this work to bring more and more international students to China while providing ever better and more comprehensive ser vices to them.
