Established in 1952 and own 64 years’ history, Beihang University and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics are famous university in China that focus on aeronautics and astronautics engineering. They both are key universities of national “985 Project” and “211 project”.

1. Research Orientation

As is known to all, they are well-known universities in aeronautics and astronautics field, but each of them has own major research direction. Beihang University emphasis on aeronautics research, supplemented by mechanical engineering. Aeronautical and Astronautical Science, Instrument Science and Technology, and Engineering Mechanics are ranking first majors in China University Ranking. As for the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, it more focus on the civil aviation, and ace professional is Aeronautical and Astronautical Science, Mechanical Engineering and Neo-Confucianism.

2. International Education

In the aspect of the proportion of foreign students. International education at Beihang University was inaugurated in the early 1990s’, Beihang University is one of the few universities in China which use English as its primary language of instruction for all international master and doctoral programs, as well as some of its bachelor programs. In 2005, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics established College of International Education which is one of the first institutes in China to accept international students. NUAA has 11 years’ history in international education, while BUAA has a history more than 25 years. So in the aspects of faculty, teaching language and facilities, BUAA has a relatively mature system in international education.

Till now, the member of students from other countries in Beihang University totally is 1067. While NUAA has more than 1000 international students from 70 countries, including 600 undergraduate students, and more than 240 postgraduates; 150 Chinese language students and 50 exchange students. According to the data of 2015, international students mainly come from 23 countries of Europe, 34 countries of Africa, 34 countries of Asia, 12 countries from North and South America, and 1 countries from Oceania. In Beihang University, the total number of faculty  is over 3,700, of them more than 2,100 full-time teachers and over 1,600 professors and associate professors. It also has attracted a large number of high level talents, including 20 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 20 experts of “Recruitment Program of Global Experts”, 23 chief scientists of “The 973 Project”, 46 professors of “Chang Jiang Scholars Program”, 35 winners of “The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars”, and 3 state-level famous teachers. While Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics has 29,887 students as well as 2,935 staff, among whom, 1,594 are academic teachers and professional researchers, with 357 professors and 664 associate professors. Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics has 10 Academicians in China’s Academy of Science and China’s Academy of Engineering, 269 supervisors for doctoral degrees.
