A few days ago, a ceremony was convened at Sipailou Campus of Southeast University, where Professor Richard Penty, Dean of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University, was employed as a visiting professor. Wang Baoping, Executive Vice President of Southeast University, Party and government administrators, representatives of teachers and students of the School of Electronic Science and Engineering attended the event.

Sun Litao, Dean of the School of Electronic Science and Engineering, presided over the ceremony and briefly introduced the academic achievements made by Prof. Richard Penty. In his speech, Executive Vice President Wang Baoping expressed his welcome and gratitude to Prof. Richard Penty for his appointment as a visiting professor of Southeast University, presented him with a letter of appointment and wore the school badge for him. Prof. Richard Penty said in his speech that he felt very grateful to Southeast University for honoring him as a visiting professor. He will actively promote exchanges and cooperation between the School of Electronic Science and Engineering of Southeast University and the College of Engineering of Cambridge University, and thus advance the common development of both schools in the field of electronic information.  

After the employment ceremony, Prof. Richard Penty delivered a lecture on the cutting-edge technology to the teachers and students present, titled the “Integrated High-port Optical Switch”.

Prof. Richard Penty is a internationally renowned expert in the field of photonics. He received his bachelor's and doctorate degrees from Cambridge University. In 2012, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Engineering and a Fellow of the British Society of Engineering and Technology. He is currently serving as Dean of Sidney Sussex College of Cambridge University, Professor of the Engineering Department and principal of the CUED Photonics Research Program.
