RUC President LIU Wei Meets with President of Universite Paul-Valery Montpellier Patrick Gilli

On the afternoon of June 4th, LIU Wei, President of Renmin University of China, met with Patrick Gilli, visiting President of Universite Paul-Valery Montpellier in France. The two sides discussed in depth issues such as running the Sino-French Institute, strengthening teacher exchanges, and research cooperation.

RUC President LIU Wei shared that for a long time, Universite Paul-Valery Montpellier and Renmin University have maintained a strong cooperative relationship. Universite Paul-Valery Montpellier is a founding partner of the Sino-French Institute. Since 2012, the two universities have cooperated in the establishment of national economic management and French majors at the Sino-French Institute. Additional studies in communications and human resources management were also established. The Faculty of Philosophy also conducted exchanges and cooperation with faculty and students at the Universite Paul-Valery Montpellier. He expressed his gratitude to the strong support provided by the young teachers of Renmin University for overseas training, and hoped that the two sides can deepen exchanges and cooperation. He expressed that the school will use the Sino-French Institute as a platform to strengthen the exchange of teachers and research cooperation between the two sides and gather interdisciplinary studies. Both sides can leverage research strengths and explore innovative ways to collaborate in cultivating teaching talents and high-level research talents in the field of humanities.

President of Universite Paul-Valery Montpellier Patrick Gilli first congratulated the establishment of the Silk Road School at Renmin University of China and stated that he would recommend more students to come to Sino-French Institute to exchange their studies and apply for the Master of Contemporary Chinese Studies program at Silk Road School. He also noted that Universite Paul-Valery Montpellier will support teacher training and advanced studies of the Sino-French Institute. In July of this year, the first 11 French teachers will be invited to France for French language training. Patrick Kirkley also introduced the school’s research and application in the field of interdisciplinary digital humanities, curriculum development, and cooperation with Sorbonne University.

Many distinguished personnel including Dean of the Sino-French Institute, LI Zigao, and Director of RUC International YAN An, and RUC International VP LI Zhenshi, were also in attendance.
