SMU News, Nov. 7th The inaugural conference of China Japanese Education Association Southwest Branch and the Teaching and Research Promotion Symposium was held in the Multi-Function Meeting Room of the Administrative Building on Wuhou campus on November 4th. Participants attending the meeting were SMU’s President Zeng Ming, Chen Duoyou Vice-chairman of China Japanese Education Association, relative faculties from School of Foreign Languages as well as more than 50 representatives from 17 universities of Sichuan, Yunnan Province, and other areas.
Wang Shuyu, Honorary Chairman of China Japanese Education Association Southwest Branch and Director of Japanese Department, College of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Sichuan University, announced the beginning of the conference. President Zeng, on behalf of SMU, extended the warm congratulations on the establishment of China Japanese Education Association Southwest Branch. He also expressed his hope that the Branch could improve the development of Japanese education and the cultivation of Japanese talents in southwest China. Chen Duo you and relative faculties delivered speeches respectively. Moreover, Zhou Yifu, Chairman of China Japanese Education Association also sent his congratulatory message.
After the opening ceremony, Chen Duoyou, Vice-chairman of China Japanese Education Association and a professor of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and Zhu Pengxiao, a professor of Tianjin Foreign Studies University, respectively gave academic lectures entitled Discussion on Japanese New Realistic Literature---Focusing on Ryunosuke Akutagawa and Japanese Cross-Cultural Communication and Cultivation of Thinking Ability in the International View. Participants had a heated discussion on the current situation and problems of Japanese education in the southwestern area.
It is learned that the first council meeting of China Japanese Education Association Southwest Branch was convened in Chengdu on November 3rd, at which SMU was elected Chairman Member of the Seminar and Prof. Ma Yongping of SMU School of Foreign Languages was elected Chairman of the Southwest Branch.
