Three new disciplines proposed by Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST) have been approved and will start admission of students in 2009 according to Notice of Publishing the Disciplines Approved or Put on Record in Higher Education Institutes 2008 by Higher Education Section of the Ministry of Education. The three disciplines are Fashion Design and Engineering, Composite Materials and Engineering and Social Work. The total number of disciplines adds up to 59 in QUST now.

QUST has well coordinated the development of its disciplines in fields such as Science, Liberal Arts, Economy, Management, Medical Science and Law in recent years while still keeping its strengths and characteristics in engineering fields. To fit the strategic adjustment of the national economic structure, meet the demand of human resources market and to enhance international competitiveness, QUST lays great emphasis on the development of disciplines of hi-technology and applied science to further optimize the structure and to establish a well balanced system of disciplines. In particular, QUST strongly foster those disciplines with good reputation and potentials to be the leading force of the school development. So far, there are 2 state level disciplines (Chemical Engineering and Technology, and Polymer Material and Engineering), 6 provincial level disciplines (Chemical Engineering and Technology, Applied Chemistry, Polymer Material and Engineering, Process Engineering and Control, Material Physics and Mechanical Engineering and Automation) and 13 school level disciplines.

Now there are 59 undergraduate disciplines in fields such as Science, Liberal Arts, Economy, Management, Medical Science and Law. The three newly approved disciplines set up to meet the developing demands of society and economy are bound to be promising and full of potentials.
