5 Tips to Protect Yourself from Air Pollution in China

Today, the air pollution in Beijing reached the second-highest level, orange alert. And earlier in February this year, winter in China was given a new name as “ Nuclear Winter “. To help protect yourself from air pollution in China, CUCAS team share some effective tips below.

1. Check the Air Quality Index Can Help Protect Yourself From Air Pollution

Pay attention to daily air pollution forecasts in your area, this will help you have an idea about when to take precautions. You can easily find the forecasts on local radio, TV, newspapers and internet, also you can download APP on your phone, so that you can check the forecasts anytime.

2. Avoid Outdoor Activities Can Help Protect Yourself From Air Pollution

Outdoor activities are advised to be cut down when the air pollution rating exceeds 150. Sensitive groups like elderly citizens, children and people with lung ailments should limit exposure when the air pollution rating exceeds 101. When the air pollution is very bad, rating exceeds 201, sensitive groups, especially those with heart disease, should avoid all outdoor activites.

3. Eat More Vegetables and Fruits Can Help Protect Yourself From Air Pollution

Foods rich in antioxidant can protect your body from the damaging effects of free radicals that created by air pollution. Foods rich in vitamin C can also help your body deal with the consequences of air pollution, that means to protect yourself from air pollution in China, you need more vegetables and fruits!

4. Wear Mask Can Help Protect Yourself From Air Pollution

If you have to go outside, CUCAS team suggests you to wear mask over your mouth and nose, to help filter the pollutant. PS: Not all kinds of mask can protect you from the air pollution, it will be better to buy the mask in a chemist's shop, and ask for professional mask.

5. Get involved in Protecting the Air

You may think it’s the factories polluting the air, and you have nothing to do with it. But the fact is, there are many ways you can help protect the environment too. Such as smoke less, use public transportation and reduce energy use. Though the difference you can make may be small, but if everyone takes part to care for the environment, the differences will markedly increase.
