China University of Petroleum - Beijing (CUPB) is a national key university in China, located in the world-famous scenic Changping District, an area close to the Great Wall and Ming Tombs. 1. History
China University of Petroleum - Beijing, founded in 1953, was known as Beijing Petroleum Institute. It was founded from the combination of the best petroleum-associated departments in the country: Petroleum research groups in the Department of Geology, Department of Mining and Department of Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University, Petroleum research groups in four departments of Peiyang University (now Tianjin University), Part of Department of Chemical Engineering from Peking University, Part of Department of Mathematics from Yanching University (now merged into Peking University), Some students and faculty from a fluid fuel research group in Department of Chemical Engineering from Dalian Institute of Technology (now the Dalian University of Technology), and Some students and faculty in Department of Mining and Department of Chemical Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical Institute (now Northwest Polytechnical University). In January 2005, its name changed to China University of Petroleum.

Oil and gas wells are physical and informational conduits in the exploration and development of underground oil and gas resources. It is not only crucial throughout all stages of the exploration and development process, but also provides significant insight into the exploitation of other subsurface resources such as methane gas or thermal energy. This program aims at providing knowledge on proper design engineering and management of oil wells for economic production and smooth operation.

Oil and Gas Field Development Engineering is a discipline that aims to understand the fundamental properties of oil and gas reservoirs and the law of oil and gas flow in porous media, build effective displacement systems to develop oil and gas fields properly and extract the oil and gas to the surface economically.
