Chinese Government Scholarship Application Items

“Chinese Government Scholarship” is according to the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, Relevant national government and relevant international organization subscribed to Educational communication agreement or agreed on understanding the scholarship program provided to the overseas student, divide to full scholarship and partial scholarship. The Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China authorizes the China Scholarship Council (Following abbreviation to CSC) secretary department to implement the Chinese Government Scholarship students’ recruiting business and daily affairs management work.

1. Recruit Student Categories and Scholarship Covering Duration

Chinese tutoring is arranged before a major study. If the major can be taught by English directly, there is no need to arrange a Chinese supplementary study before major learning. Scholarship covering duration is based on determined learning years of admission.

2. Application route and Application Time

Applicants can make the application through the local government department responsible for sending overseas students or local Chinese embassy. The application time generally from the beginning of January to the middle of April.

3. Applicants qualification

1). Applicants must be Non-Chinese citizens.

2). Applicants’ degree and age requirement:

a. Students of an undergraduate degree, must have a high school graduate certificate, excellent with study performance, and age shall be not over 25;

b. Students of a postgraduate degree, must have a Bachelor’s Degree, excellent with study performance, and age shall be not over 35;

c. Students of Doctoral degree, must have a Master’s Degree, excellent with study performance, and age shall be not over 40;

d. Students of Chinese Language trainee, must have high school graduate certificate, and age shall be not over 35;

e. As a general advanced student, he or she must have a college degree of second grade or above, and the age shall be not over 45;

f. As a senior advanced student, he or she must have the academic ability equivalent to a master’s degree or above or the title of associate professor or above, and the age shall be not over 50;

4. Scholarship content and standard

1). Full Scholarship

(1). The registration fee, tuition fee, basic textbook fee, and accommodation fee will be waived.

(2). The scholarship will provide the same public medical services as Chinese students.

(3). The living expense of scholarship will be paid monthly, and the criteria are (RMB/Month):

a. Undergraduate Student: 800 yuan

b. Chinese advanced students: 800 yuan (1100 yuan for those who are sophomores or above, or have the equivalent of bachelor’s degree or above)

c. Postgraduate research students, general advance student: 1,100 yuan

d. Doctoral research students, senior advanced students: 1,400 yuan

(4). When a student coming to China, a one-time resettlement subsidy will be paid, which is based on the following criteria:

a. Those who come to China for study within 6 months: 300 yuan

b. Those who come to China for more than 1 academic year: 600 yuan

2). Partial scholarship: One or more content of the full scholarships

5. Application materials

Applicants must truthfully fill in and submit the following application materials

1).”Chinese Government Scholarship Application Form” (Printed by the scholarship committee) one original and one a copy, full in with Chinese or English.

2). Notarized highest academic record certificate; if the applicants are in school or on the job, the in-school certificate issued by your school or the on job certificate issued by your workplace will be required; other languages beyond Chinese and English text shall be attaching a translate by Chinese or English.;

3). Notarized transcript of high school examination (application for undergraduate study) or study transcript (other categories students), other languages beyond Chinese and English text shall attach a translate by Chinese or English.;

4). Study and research plan (undergraduate student, not less than 200 words, an advance student not less than 400 words, postgraduate student no less than 500 words); written by Chinese or English.

5). Student apply for Master’s degree, Doctoral degree, and senior advance student, must submit two professors or associate professors Recommendation Letters; written by Chinese or English; Applicants for Master’s and Doctoral scholarships within the territory of China shall issue the admission notice of the proposed school;

6). Students applying for Music Major shall submit 1 cassette tape of their works; students applying for art major shall provide 6 color photos of their works (2 plain pictures, 2 color pictures, 2 other works);

7). “Physical Examination Record of Foreigners”(printed by the Health and Quarantine Department of China) copy; written by English.

The applicants shall carry out the examination in strict accordance with the items required in the Physical Examination Record of Foreigners. The ”Physical Examination Record of Foreigners” without items, personal photos or stamp on the photos is invalid. In view of the validity period of the examination results is 6 months, please confirm the time of physical examination accordingly.

The above application materials shall be delivered to the scholarship committee by the Chinese Embassy in the sending country or the Chinese Embassy in China in charge of enrollment affairs before April 30, 2002. The Scholarship committee does not accept individual applications.

6. Selection of universities and majors.

Applicants can full in 3 voluntary institutions and 1 voluntary major within the scope of 88 institutions of higher learning designated by the Ministry of education of China. Please refer to the introductions and majors of overseas students receiving scholarships in China (available from www.csc.Edu.CN/), and fill in the name of the institutions and majors in strict accordance with the list of the institutions and majors.

7. Admission and notification

Scholarship council will review the applicants' application materials, and according to the applicants' condition and wish, deliver the material to the relevant universities, the university will make the final decision of whether recruit the student or not. If the applicant has contacted the school in advance and obtained the admission permit, please attach the relevant certificate in your application materials, in order to scholarship committee contact the university to your admission.

If the Applicant does not meet the requirements of enrollment or the application materials are incomplete, the scholarship committee will not accept the application.

Applicants already enrollment by the universities, ratified by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, will be recruit to be the Chinese Government Scholarship Student officially.

Scholarship committee will send the “Enrollment List” and “Admission notice ”, and” Physical Examination Record of Foreigners”(Form JW201) to the Chinese Embassy in the sending country or the Embassy of the sending country in China that undertakes the recruitment work shall be transferred to the sending departments of overseas students of all countries, and the sending departments of all countries shall transfer the above documents to the students themselves.
