Nanchang University is a comprehensive university characterized by "Penetration of Arts, Science, Engineering and Medicine subjects, Combination of studying, research and production". It is one of the national "211" Project key universities that were jointly constructed by the People's Government of Jiangxi Province and the Ministry of Education. It is also an important base for talent cultivation, scientific research, and transfer of the research accomplishment into practical use for both Jiangxi Province and the country.

1. Jiangxi Provincial Government Scholarship

To attract more outstanding international students to study in Jiangxi Province, vigorously promote the healthy and rapid development of higher education of international students in Jiangxi Province, as well as enhance the international influence of higher education in Jiangxi Province, the Jiangxi Provincial Government has funded the establishment of the "Jiangxi Provincial Government Scholarship for Foreign Students", which is set for foreign students with friendly attitudes to China, excellent grades and good morals, including doctoral students, master students, undergraduates, and language students.

. Application Requirements 

(1) Applicants should be foreigners with foreign passports, be kind to China, and be in good physical and mental condition.

(2) Applicants should abide by the law and regulations of the Chinese government, with excellent academic results and moral behaviors.

(3) Applicants must be students of our campus or students who are going to register in our campus, and should not get scholarships of any other categories at the same time.

(4) Applicants who want to study Chinese Language or any related majors for degree programs should have a relevant Chinese language level and provide related certificates such as HSK certificates or any other Chinese study or exam certificates.

(5) Applicants’ academic qualifications and age requirements:

a. Applicants who apply for undergraduate programs are required to get the senior high school graduation certificates and be under the age of 28;

b. Applicants who apply for master programs are required to get a bachelor's diploma and be under the age of 35;

c. Applicants who apply for doctoral programs are required to get the master’s diplomas and be under the age of 45;

d. Applicants who apply for Chinese language programs are required to get senior high school graduation certificates and be under the age of 50.

. Application Materials

(1) Notarized highest education diploma and transcript attained;

(Applicants who are studying in the university must submit official documents issued by your studying university to prove their current student status and expected graduation dates. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.)

(2) Photocopy of the passport page;

(3) Health certificate;

(4) Non-criminal record certificate

(5) Recommendation letters (only for master and doctoral students);

(6) Study Plan (only for master and doctoral students).

Notice: Incomplete application documents will not be processed.

. Scholarship Category and Content

(1) Master’s and doctoral students: a one-time distribution of 25,000 yuan/per year

(2) Undergraduates: a one-time distribution of 20,000 yuan/per year

(3) Chinese Language students: a one-time distribution of 6,000 yuan/per year

2. Chinese Government Scholarship

To promote mutual understanding, cooperation, and exchanges in politics, economics, culture, education, and trade between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers, and scholars to study and research in Chinese universities.

The scholarship covers the following items:

. Full Scholarship

(1) Tuition Fees: The tuition is coordinated and used by the university for the cultivation and management of scholarship students, as well as for organizing or supporting scholarship students to carry out cultural and sports activities, visits, parties, etc.

(2) Accommodation Fees: free university dormitories or accommodation subsidies.

If the scholarship students live on campus, the university will accommodate them in university dormitories (usually twin rooms); if they choose to live off campus, the university will provide monthly or quarterly accommodation subsidies, with the standard shown below:

Bachelor/Master Degree Students: 700 RMB/month

Doctoral Students: 1,000 RMB/month

(3) Stipend:

Undergraduate Students: 2,500 RMB/month;

Master Students: 3,000 RMB/month;

Doctoral students: 3,500 RMB/month.

Within the scholarship duration, registered scholarship students will receive a stipend from Nanchang University month by month. Students registering before the 15th of the month (the 15th is included) will receive the full stipend for that month.

Students registering after the 15th of the month will receive a half stipend for that month. Students who are going to graduate will receive a stipend half a month after the graduation date determined by the university.

If a registered student stays out of China for more than 15 days (school holidays excluded), his/her stipend will be stopped during his leaving.

(4) Medical insurance

. Partial Scholarship

One or some items of the full scholarship.

3. Confucius Institute Scholarship

To satisfy the growing demand of the international community for Chinese language teachers and facilitate Chinese language education in other countries. the Center For Language Education And Cooperation (CLEC) will continue with the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship. Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms, certain HSK test centers, Chinese language (education) departments of foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language instruction of other countries, Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad (collectively “recommending institutions”) may recommend outstanding students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers to study International Chinese Language Education or related majors in Nanchang University.

. Eligibility

All applications shall be:

a) Non-Chinese citizens;

b) Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school;

c) In good physical and mental conditions, and with good academic performance and conduct;

d) Committed to Chinese language education and related work;

e) Between the ages of 16 and 35 (35 of September 1st, 2022). Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall not be over 45. Undergraduate scholarship applicants are generally not more than 25 years old.

. Scholarship Types and Qualifications

Category I: Chinese Language Teacher Programme

A. Scholarship for One-Academic-Year- Study

The program provides scholarships for a maximum of eleven months. International students currently studying in China are not eligible.

a) TCSOL

Applicants shall have a minimum score of 270 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSK test score is required.

b) Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, etc. Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 4) and 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level)

c) Chinese Language Study Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3). Priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSK test score.

B. Scholarship for One-Academic-Semester- Study

The program provides a scholarship of a maximum of five months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible.

TCSOL, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History, Chinese Philosophy, etc. Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

. Application Documents

A. For all applicants:

a) A scanned copy of the passport photo page;

b) A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity);

c) A reference letter by the head of the recommending institutions.

B. For degree scholarship program applicants:

a) A certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript;

b) Applicants of the Scholarship for DTCSOL students are required to provide 2 reference letters from professors or associate professors or experts with equivalent professional and technical titles in relevant fields and a 3000-word personal statement in Chinese (including knowledge of the intended field of study and research proposal). Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or proof to the same effect.

c) Applicants of the Scholarship for MTCSOL students are required to provide 2reference letters from professors or associate professors. Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or proof to the same effect.

C. Applicants currently working as Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment as well as a reference letter from the employer.

D. Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.

E. Applicants shall also provide additional documents required by the host institutions.
