1. Shanghai Jiao Tong University Scholarship

How to apply

Applicants who apply for Shanghai Jiao Tong University scholarships can choose to apply for scholarships at the same time when filling out the registration form online. Outstanding students will have the opportunity to obtain the following scholarship.

2. Chinese Government Scholarship

To enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and the people of the world, and to develop exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries in various fields, the Chinese government has established scholarships to subsidize outstanding students, teachers, and scholars from all over the world to study or conduct research in Chinese universities.

How to apply

Step 1: Complete the Chinese Government Scholarship form.

Step 2: Complete and submit the online application.

Step 3: The application fee is RMB 800 (approx. USD 120), non-refundable and non-transferable. Payment must be submitted in RMB or USD.

3. International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

To satisfy the growing demand of the international community for Chinese language teachers and facilitate Chinese language education in other countries, the Center For Language Education And Cooperation (CLEC) will continue with the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship, hereinafter referred to as “the scholarship”. outstanding international students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers can study International Chinese Language Education or related majors in Chinese universities and colleges.

Scholarship Types and Qualifications

(1) Scholarship for Masters Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL)

The program commences in September 2023 and provides scholarships for a maximum of two academic years. Applicants shall hold a Bachelor's degree, and have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK Test (Level 6) as well as 60 on the HSKK test (Advanced Level). Priority will be given to applicants who may provide a work contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China or proof to the same effect.

(2) Scholarship for Bachelor's Degree in Chinese (International Chinese Language Education)

The program commences in September 2023 and provides a scholarship for a maximum of four academic years. Applicants shall hold a senior high school diploma and a minimum score of 200 on the HSK Test (Level 5) as well as 60 on the HSKK test (Intermediate Level). At the same time, applicants for Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese (International Chinese Language Education) shall also obtain the pre-admission to SJTU.

(3) Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study Program (Chinese Language Study)

The program commences in September 2023 and provides scholarships for a maximum of 11 months. International students who have benefited from similar scholarships are not eligible. Applicants shall have a minimum score of 210 on the HSK test (Level 3), and priority will be given to applicants who provide an HSKK test score.

(4) Scholarship for One-Semester Study Program (Chinese Language and Literature)

The program commences in September 2023 or March 2024 and provides a scholarship for a maximum of 5 months. Applicants holding the X1 or X2 visa are not eligible. Applicants shall have a minimum score of 180 on the HSK Test (Level 3), and an HSKK test score is required.

Application and Admission Procedures

Online registration will be available from March 1, 2023, on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship application website. Please log on to search for recommending institutions and Shanghai Jiao Tong University; upload application materials online; and track the application progress, comments, and results. 

 

4. Asian Future Leaders Scholarship

Mr. Ronald K. Y. Chao is the honorary chairman of Bai Xian Asia Institute (BXAI) and founder of Bai Xian Education Foundation. He is also vice-chairman and director of Novel Enterprises Limited, and an active philanthropist with a vision of a prosperous, sustainable, and conflict-free modern Asia. He is a member of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University(SJTU) Board of Directors. The Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program (AFLSP) awards high-caliber students in Asia each year to study abroad at leading universities across East Asia. SJTU is the partner university of BXAI.

Scholarship Coverage

The scholarship offers each student up to US$25,000 per year or a total of US$50,000 per scholar, which may be used towards university tuition, accommodation costs, and personal living expenses. The scholarship will be fully disbursed to students directly by month in RMB, and the students should pay the tuition and other fees themselves. (For students who cannot be reported offline due to the epidemic or other reasons, the scholarship will be postponed until they complete the admission procedures and report offline)

Eligibility

The AFLSP selection is conducted by the SJTU BAIXIAN Committee. Scholarship recipients must:

1) Be a national of an Asian country/region.

2) Have high proficiency in English.

3) Possess strong personal integrity, propensity for international and intercultural understanding, compassion, and willingness to serve and demonstrate his/her alignment with BXAI’s mission and vision.

4) Remain enrolled at SJTU as a full-time student for the duration

participation in the AFLSP.

5) Once selected, all scholarship recipients must participate intheBXAI Summer Program offered by BXAI.

6) Once selected, all scholarship recipients must participate in and complete courses/research and activities offered by SJTUBAIXIAN Committee.

7) This scholarship cannot be shared with other scholarships.

5. Youth of Excellence Scheme of China Program Chinese Government Scholarship

To promote mutual understanding and friendship between China and other countries, and to provide educational opportunities to youths worldwide who enjoy good potential in their career development, the Chinese Government established the “Youth of Excellence Scheme of China Program Chinese Government Scholarship” to provide financial support to the outstanding youths coming to China to pursue a Master’s degree.

The following majors are available for the Youth of Excellence Scheme of China Program Chinese Government Scholarship provided at SJTU.

Science of Law(Koguan Law School)

Master of Business Administration(Antai College of Economics and Management)

Political Science(School of International and Public Affairs)

Eligibility

(1) Non-Chinese citizens;

(2) Healthy both physically and mentally;

(3) Not over 45 years old;

(4) A bachelor's or higher degree;

(5) At least 3 years of work experience;

(6) With some educational or professional experience in a field relative to that of the program applied;

(7) Must meet at least one of the following four requirements:

①working in a government agency of home countries, and being above Assistant Director level, i.e., a Deputy Director, Section Director, or Chief of Office;

②being a Senior Manager of companies or other organizations;

③being an administrator in universities or research institutions;

④having working experience in international organizations.

Application

Step 1: (Deadline: March 31, 2023)

According to the requirements stated in “2023 SJTU International Graduate Admission Guidelines”, complete and submit an online application in the SJTU application system. In the “Apply Scholarship” column, please choose “apply for scholarships through Chinese embassies”.

Step 2: (Deadline: April 30, 2023)

Please log in to “CSC Chinese Government Scholarship Information System”, submit an online application, and submit the application documents to the application receiving agency.

Note:

(1) Before applying for this scholarship in the “CSC Chinese Government Scholarship Information System”, you should have received the pre-admission letter provided by SJTU. Students who have not been granted the pre-admission letter cannot apply for this scholarship.

(2) Please choose “Type A” (scholarship category).

(3) The “Agency Number” is 1563.

(4) Make sure to apply for the “ Youth of Excellence Scheme of China Program Chinese Government Scholarship”.
