Wenzhou University was initially established in 1956 as Wenzhou Normal College. In 1984 the college was granted university status and became Wenzhou University. It is a public university with scholarships available for outstanding students. WZU is a comprehensive regional university equipped with programs to the demands of the market, thus making them more flexible and dynamic in talent training.

Featured Programs

WZU English-medium bachelor's degree programs International Economy and Trade (College of International Cooperation) and Marketing (College of International Cooperation) have been preferred among International students. Available Scholarships

1. International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship

WZU has been appointed to accept international students with International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship for one academic year/one-semester/four-week studies.

Category and Eligibility

All applicants shall be: Non-Chinese citizens; In good Physical and mental condition, well performed both academically and behaviorally; Aspired to take future careers in the teaching or international promotion of the Chinese language; Between the ages of 16 to 35 on Sept. 1st of each academic year.

Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Study

Commences September and attend General Chinese Program A. This category provides a scholarship of a maximum of 11 months. Applicants currently studying in China are not eligible. The applicant shall have a minimum score of 180 in HSK Level 3, while an HSKK test score required.

Scholarship for One-Semester Study

Commences either in September or March and attend General Chinese Program A. This category provides a scholarship of a maximum of 5 months. Applicants holding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible. The applicant shall have a minimum score of 210 in HSK Level 3, while an HSKK test score required.

Scholarship for Four-week Study

Commences either in July or December and attends the ‘Chinese Language plus home Stay Experience in Chinese Family’ Program. This category provides a four-week scholarship. Applicants holding visas X1 or X2 are not eligible. Organized and applied by a Confucius Institute with  10-15 participants per group. Before the trip, a detailed study plan shall be made after consultation with DHU and submitted to Hanban for approval. HSK test scores are required.

Scholarship Coverage and Criteria

Full scholarship: full coverage on tuition fee, accommodation fee, living allowance (CNY 2500/month, four-week study students are excluded), and comprehensive medical insurance expenses.

Application & Admission

Online registration will be available from March 1st on the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website (http://cis.chinese.cn). Please upload application materials online, including a scanned copy of the passport photo page, a scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK test (within the two-year validity), a recommendation letter by the head of recommending institutions, track the application progress, feedback of review and admission results. Scholarship holders need to confirm with the host institutions to go through the procedures of studying in China, print out the ICLTS scholarship certificate online, and register at host institutions at the designated date and time as per the letter of admission.

The application deadlines are:

a) June 20th (for those commencing in September for one-academic-year/one-semester study)

b) December 20th (for those commencing in March for one-semester study)

c) April 20th (for those commencing in July for a four-week study)

d) September 20th (for those commencing in December for a four-week study)

2. Zhejiang Provincial Government Scholarship

International students who apply to study or are studying at Wenzhou University in Zhejiang Province pursue a bachelor's degree, a master's degree, a doctoral degree, or as long-term general scholars.

Values of Scholarships

(1) Class A Scholarship for Masters

The Class A Scholarship sponsors at a rate of 30,000 RMB/person/year.

The Class A Scholarship sponsors excellent international students pursuing a master’s degree or above in Zhejiang Province. The scholarship should be used to cover registration fees, tuition fees, fees for basic learning materials, accommodation fees, and serious disease and accident insurance.

(2) Class B Scholarship For Bachelor

The Class B Scholarship sponsors at a rate of 20,000 RMB/person/year.

The Class A Scholarship sponsors excellent international students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Zhejiang Province. The scholarship should be used to cover registration fees, tuition fees, fees for basic learning materials, accommodation fees, and serious disease and accident insurance.

(3) Class C Scholarship For Chinese Language

The Class C Scholarship sponsors at a rate of 6,000 RMB/person/year.

The Class C Scholarship sponsors excellent international students who are studying at Wenzhou University in Zhejiang Province for the long term.

Application

Eligible applicants should apply to the university in written form before the deadlines. Applicants for Class A, Class B, and Class C can apply only once a year. Applicants for Class D can apply once a semester. Eligible applicants can apply consecutively. Applications are accepted from January. For the specific application deadlines, applicants should consult the university.

3. Wenzhou University Scholarship

Wenzhou University launched Presidential Scholarship in 2016 to attract applicants with good language ability and sound academic background to attend Chinese language and culture programs, undergraduate programs, and postgraduate programs.

(1) WZU Presidential Scholarship for Degree Students Admission

Classes and amounts of the WZU Presidential Scholarship for Degree Students Admission are as follows.

Class A: Full tuition for the first academic year (excluding accommodation and miscellaneous expenses)

Class B: RMB 6,000 yuan for undergraduate applicants; RMB 8,000 yuan for postgraduate applicants.

(2) WZU Presidential Scholarship for Language Students Admission

Classes and amounts of the WZU Presidential Scholarship for Language Students Admission are as follows.

1st Prize: RMB 2,000 yuan/semester/student  

2nd Prize: RMB 1,500 yuan/semester/student  

3rd Prize: RMB 1,000 yuan/semester/student  

  • Chinese Government Scholarship

To promote mutual understanding, cooperation, and exchanges in various fields between China and other countries, the Chinese government has set up a series of scholarship programs to sponsor international students, teachers, and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities.

Type A: Bilateral Program 

Introduction

This includes full or partial scholarships through educational exchange agreements or consensus between the Chinese government and governments of other countries, institutions, universities, or international organizations. It supports undergraduate students, graduate students, general scholars, and senior scholars.

Applicants shall apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study of their home countries.

Application Procedure

Step 1  Apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study of your home country for a CSC opportunity

Step 2  Apply to your target university for the Pre-admission Letter once recommended by the dispatching authorities as an eligible candidate (you will receive an Award Letter for CSC Candidate);

Step 3  Complete the online application procedure

(Visit http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina or http://www.campuschina.org and click “Application Online” to log in), submit online the completed Application Form for the Chinese Government Scholarship, and print a hard copy. You should consult the dispatching authorities for overseas study of your home country for Instructions on CSC Information Management System for International Students and Agency Number;

Step 4  Submit all of your application documents to the dispatching authorities of your home country before the deadline.

Type B: Chinese University Program

Introduction

This is a full scholarship for designated Chinese universities and certain provincial education offices in specific provinces or autonomous regions to recruit outstanding international students for graduate studies in China. It only supports postgraduate students and doctoral students.
