On January 13, the Second Fulbright Scholarship Senior Chinese Program began as an opening ceremony was held at the International School of Chinese Studies of Shaanxi Normal University.

Sixteen U.S. college students participating in the Program, Dr. Wanli Hu, Director of China Program Center at University of Massachusetts Boston and his colleague Dr. Kaitlyn Lee, the program coordinator, Prof. Xu Feng and Ms Zhang Lingyun, director and vice-director of the International Programs Office, Prof. Zhang Jiancheng, dean of the International School of Chinese Studies and other officials and teachers from the School attended the ceremony.

Prof. Zhang Jiancheng, after welcoming the new students, said that the School has made detailed and elaborate plans in terms of curriculum, teaching and exercises, internship and cultural fieldtrips, aiming at developing this program into a brand name one in Shaanxi province, with better results through better service.

Dr. Wanli Hu thanked the host for the hospitality and said that he believed this second program, with the support and cooperation of Shaanxi Normal University, would be a greater success than the first one, as many of the participants of the first program have been recruited as interns by famous U.S. companies, government agencies and NGOs.

According to Dr. Hu, two thirds of the participants are from world famous universities like Yale, UC Berkley, Wesleyan, Tufts, etc., and their Chinese proficiency is on intermediate or advanced levels.

These students are funded by the U.S. government through Fulbright Scholarship to study Chinese language and culture at SNNU for half a year.
