On the morning of March 10, 2015, the SWUN-CUM Agreement of “Excellent Ethnic Minority Talents Training Program” was signed between the Southwest University of Nationalities (SWUN) and the City University of Macau (CUM) at the Cultural Palace of Nationalities in Beijing. Present at the signing ceremony were Chen Gaihu, Deputy Director of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission (SEAC), Huang Yanrong, Deputy Governor of Sichuan Province, Chan Meng Kam, member of the national committee of CPPCC and Chairperson of the council of CUM, Pang Su-Seng, Acting Rector of CUM, leaders of related organizations of SEAC, Sichuan Provincial People’s Government (SPPG) as well as Bian Jing, Party committee secretary of SWUN and Zeng Ming, President of SWUN.   

According to the agreement, CUM will donate to SWUN 2.1 million Hong Kong dollars to establish “SWUN Excellent Ethnic Minority Talents Training Foundation”, which will support the ethnic minority teachers and students of SWUN in their pursuit of doctor’s degrees in CUM and the exchanges of teaching staff and students in summer vacation.   

Thanks to the platform established by SEAC and the Tertiary Education Services Office of Macau, the agreement has been signed without a hitch. It is also the outcome of the framework agreement signed between SWUN and CUM in August 2014. The implementation of the agreement will, to a great extent, expand the cooperative dimension and field between the two universities and promote the open and cooperative running of schools in institutions of higher learning for nationalities.
