From July 15th to 18th, a BUCM delegation headed by President Xu Anlong visited UK. During the visit, President Xu held talks on behalf of BUCM with University of Oxford and Imperial College London on cooperation in scientific research, and gave lectures at University of Cambridge and Imperial College London.
The delegation first visited Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Imperial College London and John Radcliffe Hospital, University of Oxford to discuss with Professor Xu Xiaoning, Director of the Centre for Immunology and Vaccinology of Imperial College London, and Professor Gavin Screaton, Head of the Medical Sciences Division, University of Oxford, about possible future tripartite cooperation in the scientific research of Chinese medicine.
During their visits to the University of Cambridge and the Imperial College London, the delegation presented three lectures to local students and researchers. President Xu Anlong made a report on “Opportunities and Challenges of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the Benefit of Human Beings”, in which , he introduced in detail the essence of traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese people’s view of life, and explained why traditional Chinese medicine has lasting vitality and eternal value, which evoked very positive responses from the audience.
In addition, the delegation visited London Aishengde Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine to learn about its development in the UK and to explore possibilities of future cooperation between the two in medical research. The delegation also visited the Centre for Natural Medicines Research, King’s College London and held follow-up discussions with Professor Peter Hylands, Director of the Centre, and Professor Xu Qihe on the ongoing cooperation between the Cmentre and BUCM School of Chinese Materia Medica.
The delegation members included Lei Haimin, Dean, School of Chinese Materia Medica, Wang Yiguang, President , Zaozhuang Hospital, , Hu Shiping, President , Shenzhen Hospital, and Wang Shanshan, Vice-Director of International Office, BUCM.
