On the morning of December 17th, 2016, the inauguration of the US Center for Chinese Medicine by BUCM and the opening ceremony of Chinese Medicine Museum was held in Maryland, U.S. Those who inaugurated the center included Mr. Tang Li, Minister-counsellor and Consul General at the Chinese Embassy in US, Ms. Susan Lee, Senator of Maryland, Mr. Clarence Lam, a member of the House of Representatives (M.H.P.), Mr. Zhang Tao, Vice President of the International Monetary Fund, Mr. Tian Xiaoming, President of the Chinese Medicine Research Institute and former member of the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy, and Professor Xu Anlong, President of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM). It marked the official opening of the first US center for Chinese medicine to teach Chinese medicine, provide medical care, and carry out scientific research and cultural exchanges.

BUCM Vice President Gu Xiaohong presided at the opening ceremony. President Xu Anlong delivered a speech, elaborating the purposes of establishing the Center and its missions, i.e. offering public welfare, providing guidance , medical service and establishing a platform for CM professionals and advocates of the development of Chinese medicine in the U.S. and the whole world to work jointly for better contributions by CM to the wellbeing of people all over the world in the 21st century.

Subsequently, Maryland Senator Susan Lee, Congressman Clarence Lam, Tian Xiaoming, President of the Chinese Medicine Research Institute and Zhang Tao, Vice President of the International Monetary Fund made speeches to extend their congratulations to and support for the establishment of the Center.
Finally, Mr. Tang Li, Minister-counsellor and Consul General of the Chinese Embassy in the US delivered a speech. He pointed out that Chinese medicine is a treasure of the Chinese culture and hoped that through the joint efforts of everyone it can better serve the health of the whole humanity.
The US Center of Chinese Medicine by BUCM is a non-profit organization initiated and established by BUCM. Located at Rockville, Maryland, it covers an area of about more than 2,000 square meters. The Center is established to set up a platform for the cooperation between Chinese medicine and biomedicine in China and the U.S. in medical care, education and scientific research. As an important measure for the internationalization of Chinese medicine, it aims to benefit the health of the American people , promote in-depth cultural exchanges between China and the U.S., and disseminate Chinese medicine in a positive way in the world. The Chinese Medicine Museum is now open to visitors for them to fully understand the connotations and achievements of CM and directly experience CM therapies through exhibitions and cultural activities that will be held regularly at the museum.
Some 100 attendees were present at the inauguration ceremony including Sun Fengshou, an official at the Education Department of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, experts with the U.S. National Institutes of Health, BUCM alumni and other Chinese from all walks of life in the U.S. Representatives from the BUCM American Alumni Association presented special gifts to their alma mater.
