On June 25, 2015, Mr WANG Yongli, Deputy Director-General of Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban, and his team paid an official visit to the Confucius Institute at the University of the South Pacific (CI-USP) at Laucala Campus, Suva, Fiji.

Mr. WANG Yongli and his team met Hon. Dr. Mahendra Reddy, the Minister of Education, had a business meeting with the CI-USP Board members and attentively listened to the work report by Ms. Sin Joan Yee and Mr. LI Denggui, the directors of CI, made recommendations for the future development of CI-USP, paid a courtesy visit to the Chinese Embassy and met H.E. Mr. ZHANG Ping, the Chinese Ambassador to Fiji. They also witnessed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between CI-USP and China Railway Company in Fiji, met USP academic staff, representatives of Chinese communities in Fiji including the Fiji-China Friendship Association, Chinese Association of Fiji and Chinese Education Society of Fiji (Yat Sen School Board), Chinese teachers from Hanban, and Hanban scholarship representatives.

Mr. WANG gave his heartfelt thanks to the member country governments of USP, Chinese Embassy in Fiji, USP and Fiji Chinese communities for their support to CI-USP. He was satisfied with the efforts of CI-USP in promoting Chinese language and culture to the South Pacific, and expected that CI-USP will continue to do its best to adhere to the mission of Confucius Headquarters/Hanban, take into consideration of the local characteristics in the development of CI-USP in the 12 member countries, try to meet the needs of the region and serve the South Pacific in educational, cultural and economic development while promote Chinese language and culture.
