OUC Signs Cooperation Agreement with Heriot-Watt University (UK)

On April 20, Assistant Principal Ruth Moir of Heriot-Watt University led a delegation to Ocean University of China (OUC). Vice President Li Weiran of OUC met with the guests in the conference room of Xingyuan Building. The two sides had in-depth discussions on cooperation and signed an inter-university cooperation agreement and MoU for the application of a joint education program under the Ministry of Education.

Vice President Li extended a warm welcome to the delegation and talked about OUC’s history, academic strengths, size and the construction of its new campus. He also outlined his belief that, based on this good cooperative foundation, researchers from both sides would be able to strengthen exchanges and cooperation. Efforts will also be able to be made to facilitate the implementation of the joint education program for international talent to further deepen capabilities in this area.

Assistant Principal Ruth Moir expressed her thanks for the warm welcome. She pointed out that the two sides have a solid foundation for cooperation in areas such as marine science, marine renewable energy and environmental engineering. Heriot-Watt university will, based on its previous experience of working with Chinese universities, build on its existing cooperation with OUC and the universities’ common areas of interest to deepen all aspects of cooperative relations.

Prof. Beatrice Pelloni, Dean of the School of Mathematics and Computer Science introduced the latest achievements made by Heriot-Watt in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. 

The two sides then engaged in detailed discussions about computer science and AI talent cultivation, including the “3+1” joint undergraduate program, Sino-foreign cooperative education program, the “1+2” joint graduate program, the joint doctoral program and the student exchange program.

During the meeting, the two sides signed an inter-university cooperation agreement for the “3+1” joint undergraduate program and the “1+2” joint graduate program, as well as the MoU for the application of the joint education program under the Ministry of Education.
