Retired Professor Establishes Scholarship in Sui-Tang History Research

On August 29, Prof. Niu Zhigong, a 92 years old retired teacher of Shaanxi Normal University, donated RMB one million yuan to establish a scholarship program in Inheritance of Research in the History of Sui and Tang Dynasties, at a ceremony held on the university’s Yanta campus.

 

 

 

Prof. Niu and his family Mr. Niu Xufeng, Ms Zhang Qing, Ms Zeng Xiaoqin of Xian Kaidun International Engineering Co., Ltd., CPC SNNU Committee vice secretary Lu Shengli, SNNU Educational Foundation secretary-general Liu Jianbin, SNNU School of History and Civilization dean He Zhilong, CPC SNNU SHC secretary Du Haibin, SHC vice dean Cao Wei, SNNU teacher and Society of China Tang History vice chairman Xue Pingshuan, secretary-general Bai Genxing, and some HSC graduate and undergraduate students attended the ceremony.

 

 

Prof. Niu recalled his childhood, adolescent years, and military service, and teaching and research of history at SNNU, in particular Sui, Tang and the Five Dynasties. He hoped he could do his best to support more young people, so they could take over the torch of research in research of Sui, Tang and the Five Dynasties.

 

 

Mr. Lu thanked Prof. Niu for establishing the scholarship program, thanked his children for supporting his will, and thanked the School of History and Culture and Educational Foundation for facilitating this program. He hoped SHC would continue to nurture new researchers and contribute to SNNU disciplinary development.

SHC dean He Zhilong briefed about the background of the scholarship and expressed gratitude and respect to Prof. Niu. He said the scholarship would be awarded to the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students who had published in the field of Sui and Tang Dynasties history.

Prof. Bai Genxing, who is a student of Prof. Niu, also spoke at the ceremony, vowing to follow his teacher’s steps in research.

 

 

Prof. Nius son Niu Xufeng thanked SNNU for the care for his father and said he hoped the scholarship would inspire more students to invest themselves in the research in Sui and Tang Dynasties history.

 

 

At the end, Lu Shengli and Niu Xufeng signed the scholarship donation agreement.
