SNNU 6th Teaching Competence Contest Held

On December 7, 2013, the Sixth SNNU Young Teachers’ Teaching Competence Contest was held in the Teacher and Teaching Development Center on the Yanta campus of Shaanxi Normal University. Forty young teachers participate in the Contest and were awarded.

 

 

 

 

The contestants competed in the three categories of Humanities and Social Science, Science and Engineering, and Arts and Sports. They exhibited their teaching competence through teaching plan design, classroom instruction and on-site oral defense.

According to the scores given by the judges for their designs and performances, Zhang Bin of School of Education, Xu Chang of School of Life Science and Li Mei of School of Journalism and Mass Communications won the first prizes in the three categories respectively. Five young teachers won the second prizes; seven won the third prizes and another 25 teachers won the honorable mentions.

A total of 365 contestants entered into the preliminaries held by schools and departments. Seven of them including the School of History and Culture were commended for their outstanding organization.

The Contest was co-sponsored by the Teaching Affairs Department, the Teacher and Teaching Development Center, the Labor Union and the Personnel Department. It has become a brand activity of the university for fostering the growth of young teachers and is highly reputed among universities and colleges in Xi’an.

The purpose of the Contest is to enhance the young teachers’ teaching competence in the age of information and realize the integration of modern information technology and discipline instruction. It encourages the young teachers to shift their educational concept from “Teaching centered” to “Learning centered” and “Putting students first”, innovate their teaching contents, teaching methods and teaching techniques, in an attempt to improve the university’s quality teaching and talent cultivation.

Prof. Feng Boqin of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Prof. Ge Wenjie of Northwestern Polytechnical University, Prof. Sun Xiaozi of Xidian University, Prof. Shi Qizhen of Northwest University and Prof. Fu Gangshan of Shaanxi Normal University were the judges of the contest.
