SNNU Delegation Visits New Zealand and Australia

During November 24 and December 1, 2013, the SNNU delegation, headed by vice president You Xuquan, visited New Zealand and Australia.

 

 

The delegation is composed of Zheng Hairong, executive vice dean of the Graduate School, Li Zhen, dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Xue Dongqian, dean of Tourism and Environmental Studies and Zhang Lingyun, vice director of the International Programs Office.

In order to consolidate existing ties and develop new cooperation, they visited Massey University and the University of Waikato in New Zealand, and Griffith University and Edith Cowen University in Australia.

At the University of Waikato, the delegation discussed the details of cooperation in the areas of tourism management, human geography, journalism and mass communications with the host, and they agreed to consolidate and expand the areas of cooperation and exchange, especially in student exchange, faculty visit and research collaboration. VP You signed an Intention for Cooperation and Exchange with the Mr. Ed Weymes, Vice President of the University of Waikato.

At Massey University, they met and exchanged ideas with the heads and professors of the International Office, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Psychology, College of Journalism Communication and Market and College of Fundamental Research, etc. The two institutions reached agreement on 3+1+1 master’s programs, 2+2 dual degree programs, joint doctoral programs, and inviting Massey professors to lecture at SNNU. They also extended an invitation to Massey University for their visit to SNNU next spring.

At Griffith University, VP You signed an MOU for Cooperation and Exchange with Griffith’s vice president Sarah Todd and explored the possibilities of collaboration in the both institutions’ strong discipline of tourism. The delegation also visited the Tourism Confucius Institute at Griffith University to observe and learn their experience.

At Edith Cowen University, the delegation met ECU’s deputy vice-chancellor Ron Oliver and heads and deans of other department and schools such as Lynn Cohen, executive dean of Faculty of Education and Arts, Gengsheng Shen, dean of International, Joe Luca, dean of Graduate Research School, Jim Cross, associate dean of International and School of Engineering & International Office to push forward the joint doctoral program in mass communications, and they set up a timetable of program implementation with specific orientation, objective, qualification, mode and duration.

The visit strengthened SNNU’s relationships with institutions in New Zealand and Australia, established the school and department oriented mode of international exchange and cooperation, and expanded new areas for faculty and students to participate in international exchange and cooperation.
