In the morning of April 12, the 61st Students Sports Meeting of Southeast University was opened at the Gymnasium of Jiulonghu Campus. School leaders including Zuo Wei, Wang Baoping, Zheng Jiamao, Ding Hui and responsible comrades of various colleges and departments attended the opening ceremony. School CPC Secretary Zuo Wei announced the opening of the sports meeting and Deputy Secretary Zheng Jiamao presided over the opening ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, the imposing flag guards and the energetic flower team stepped into the venue in order and kicked off the opening ceremony, followed by the athletes of each department, full of spirit and with elegant demeanor.

Managing Vice President Wang Baoping delivered the opening speech, expressed his ardent congratulations on the successful convening of this sports meeting and sincere greetings to all the athletes and referees to be engaged in this sports meeting, and also expressed his heartfelt appreciations to all the staff who have made this event possible. He said the annual students sports meeting wouldbe deemed as a major sport event for the school to establish morality and cultivate talents; meanwhile, it would also display and review the school’s sports level and spiritual outlook in a concentrative manner. Sports is not only considered as an approach of “enhancing the physical fitness” but more represent the “civilization and its spirit”. He expected the students to still further love sports activities, advocate sports culture and pursue a healthy spirit in the course of participation in this event. Finally, he advocated all teachers and students: “let’s act to improve our physical and mental health by active engagement in sports exercises, integrate the sportsmanship of ‘being faster, higher and stronger’ into our study, work and life for self-improvement and healthy growth, into the school’s journey of ‘double first-class’ construction. We shall strive to realize the ‘1-10-100 Dream’ of Southeast University and the “dream of building a powerful country of sports” as soon as possible, and welcome the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China with outstanding achievements”.

Chief Accountant Ding Hui announced the commendation list of “2018 Annual Advanced Department in Mass Sports” and “2018 Top 10 Athletes”. The School of Information Science and Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, School of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Software, School of Economics and Management, School of Transportation, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Humanities, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Instrument Science and Engineering and Chien-shiung Wu College were awarded “2018 Annual Advanced Department in Mass Sports”. 10 athletes including Hao Yueran, Zhang Yinqi, Dai Shenghong, Yan Xiaofeng, Li Peng, Wang Rui, Huang Xiang, Xiao Kaiti·Nur Maimaiti, Hu Bo and Miao Wenxiao were awarded the title of “2018 Top Ten Athletes”. Department representatives and athletes went on stage to receive the award.

Athlete Li Peng and Referee Ding Liang took the oath on behalf of athletes, coaches and referees who participated in the 61st sports meeting.

With the theme of “Dream of Southeast University” and “the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China”, the group gymnastics performance presented the sincerest gift and blessings to the school and the new China with bright fans and flying flags. The performance of Jiangsu Skills Team was also impressive and amazing.

It is reported that nearly 3,000 athletes participated in 60 competition eventsthis time, composed of the competition events and the fun events. Undergraduates, graduates and international students have all actively participated in this sports meeting, reflecting the sports feelings of Southeast University.
