Student Photographer Wang Weitao Wins National Geographic Award

Shaanxi Normal University student photographer Wang Weitao won awards, a Second Prize in People Category and the “China Collection Award” in the 8th China Competition of 2013National Geographic Photo Contest.

 

 

 

His prize-winning photo work “Children Playing Swing” shows a Tibet boy plays in a swing made of a rope tied to a tree, with his playmates sitting and standing around watching him. He was awarded the “China Collection Award” in recognition of his efforts in using the power of photography to change the lives of children in remote and impoverished areas.

The Contest is a major prestigious event recognized by professional and amateur photographers as well and this year’s China Competition drew more than 120,000 photo entries.

Wang is a candidate majoring in Educational Technology in the Free-of-tuition Teacher Education Master’s program in the School of Education of the university.

After graduating from the School of Fine Arts of the university in 2007, Wang went to teach at the Lhasa No. 4 Senior High School in Tibet, and is currently studying for an M.A. in his Alma Mater. He also won the First Prize in the People Category in the same contest last year.
