The 6th Forum on Sinology is Held at Renmin University China

Date: November 4, 2018

On the 3rd November, the 6th Forum on Sinology opened at Renmin University China (RUC), with nearly one hundred scholars in attendance from China and abroad. The topic of this year’s forum was “Understanding China: Inclusive Sinologies and Diverse Civilizations”, a theme combining the areas of sinology and international dialogue.

President of RUC LIU Wei, as well as leading figures from the Hanban offices, the Confucius Institute, and the Committee for the Forum on Sinology attended the opening ceremony.

Scholars from the US, UK, Germany, France, Holland, Finland, Russia, Australia, Turkey, Mongolia, Mexico, Korea, Japan and other countries attended the forum alongside scholars from important universities around China.

The forum, compared with previous years, was smaller in scale, following suggestions made by the forum committee, aimed at creating an environment for more concentrated discussions, focused on dialogue and communication. To pursue this end, all presentations were given in a dialogue format, with Chinese and international scholars presenting in turn. The forum also included a panel for more than 40 PhD students supported by the Confucius Institute’s CCSP scholarship program, amongst the five special panels of the forum.
