On the 19th October Renmin University China opened the Seventh Sporting Culture Festival in conjunction with an Athletics Meet for new Students. The event was attended by President LIU Wei and other members of staff.
On a crisp autumn’s day with warm sunshine the athletics track was filled with energy. 24 young athletes took part, accompanied by shouts and cheers of encouragement.
President LIU Wei made a speech at the opening ceremony on the significance of national athleticism and the importance of encouraging physical health alongside learning. He reminded us that strong beliefs, able bodies and well rounded characters are the basic standards for an all round education at RUC. He expressed his hope that all students would remember the importance of physical health and get regular exercise as part of their daily lives.
New students from 24 departments at RUC participated in 27 events and were accompanied by cheerleading teams from each respective department.
The Athletics Meet opened festivities for the sporting culture festival, an event which began five years ago at the 75th anniversary of the founding of RUC. Over the years such events have become ever more developed, encouraging students to introduce health and sport into their lives.
