The Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations (CDAC) opened in Beijing on May 15, 2019. A total of 66 outstanding volunteers were selected by the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) to help conference organizers in the venue layout, conference translation and media working area coordination.
Those volunteers helped to do a lot of the preparation work needed in the conference and their stories were reported by several media outlets including Beijing Daily and the website cnr.cn.
"I believe that as UIBE students, we will show the outstanding merits of young volunteers during this conference," volunteer Zhang Yawen said.
Venue maintenance volunteers patrolled venues and checked the lighting and electrical equipment to ensure that fire and electricity safety guidelines were met.
Volunteers working at the reservation desk need to communicate with foreign reporters constantly, which requires them to speak fluent English. "I think our English language ability is somewhat linked to our country's image in the eyes of those foreign journalists. I kept this in mind and gave my best in my work," volunteer Dong Yuxuan said.
