UJN Attends the 13th Confucius Institute Conference

On December 4th and 5th, the 13th Global Confucius Institute Conference was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. More than 1500 representatives from 154 countries and regions participated in the conference. UJN also attended the event.

Themed on “Facilitating the New Development Through Reform and Innovation, Forging a Brighter Future with Concerted Efforts”, the conference set up 2 special forums, namely, “Improving Academic Level of Confucius Institute” and “Confucius Institute and Vocational Skill Training”, as well as 8 presidents’ forums, including “Innovation in the Schooling Pattern and Management Mechanism of Confucius Institute”, “‘Chinese Plus’ and Specialized Development of Confucius Institute”, “Digitalization of Confucius Institute”, “Cultivating Plural Partnership System for Confucius Institutes” and so forth. Besides, workshops were set up for the first time in the Confucius Institute Conference, inviting domestic and foreign presidents, directors, experts and scholars to discuss face to face on 20 issues related to the development of the Confucius Institute.

On the sidelines of the conference, Sun Yanmei, Director of the Division for International Cooperation and Exchanges of UJN deeply discussed issues on cooperation with representatives from sister universities including Colorado State University and Ovidius University of Constanta, Romania, as well as those from the co-built Confucius Institutes, such as Marien Ngouabi University in Congo-Brazzaville, Community College of Denver and North State University. She also communicated with officials of HANBAN on specific management.

The conference is an annual gala for Confucius Institutes all over the world. Up to now, there have been a total of 548 Confucius Institutes, 1,193 primary and secondary Confucius Classrooms, and 5,665 Chinese teaching spots in 154 countries and regions. Among them, 153 Confucius Institutes and 149 Confucius Classrooms are set up in 54 countries alongside the Belt and Road. 46,000 full-time and part-time teachers from both China and other countries have taught more than 11 million students face to face to date. The headquarter of Confucius Institute has sent 34,000 Chinese teachers and trained over 60,000 local teachers.
