On the afternoon of June 27th, Du Peng, Vice President of Renmin University of China, met with visiting Malcolm Butler, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. The two sides discussed issues such as deepening academic cooperation and student exchanges between the two universities.
DU Peng welcomed the visit of Vice Chancellor Butler and his delegation and briefly introduced RUC’s predominant disciplines, international short-term exchange programs, and Silk Road College. He expressed that Renmin University is a famous comprehensive university in China, and it is a leader in the field of humanities and social sciences. He hopes that the two universities will take this opportunity to sign a cooperation agreement to develop teacher-student exchanges and scientific research cooperation in such areas as journalism and urban planning. At the same time, students from the University of Sheffield are welcome to attend the International short-term courses at Renmin University of China.
Butler introduced the University of Sheffield and expressed his hope to establish links with RUC in all areas of superior disciplines and carry out practical cooperation. He introduced University of Sheffield in Greece and neighboring international institutes scattered around the city, and discussed with him about the construction of an institute for learning.
Subsequently, LIU Jinlong, Deputy Director of the scientific research department, introduced the cooperation intentions of the two school seed funds.
After the meeting, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between Renmin University of China and Sheffield University.
Louise McCarthy, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Division of the University of Sheffield, accompanied him and ZHANG Damiao, Deputy Director of RUC International, attended the meeting.
