On November 31, the awarding ceremony of the 2nd European International Art Festival & Music Competition took place in St. Petersburg, the second largest city of Russian. Guo Wei, a young teacher from XMU Art College, won first prize in both “Bandmaster Competition” and “Choral Conducting Competition”.
Guo Wei’s performance par excellence was highly acclaimed by the organizing committee. In March 2015, he was sent to National Herzen Normal University of Russia to pursue his doctoral degree. Back at home, he had learned under the guidance of Zheng Xiaoying, a renowned music conductor and educator. After the competition, he expressed his excitement by saying, “I am truly grateful to XMU for having offered me the opportunity to study abroad. Thank thee and bless thee, my beloved alma mater!” “It’s a lovely surprise for me to see that my honor certificates, albeit awarded by a European competition, are printed in English, Russian and Chinese, and they highlight the theme of the cultural exchanges pertaining to the silk road, which makes me feel immensely proud as a Chinese living in a foreign country,” said Guo Wei. In addition, it’s noteworthy that Guo Wei had already garnered the first prize as a chorus conductor in the 7th St. Petersburg International Art Festival & Music Competition held in November last year.
The European International Art Festival & Music Competition was jointly organized by Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation, President Office of Russian Federation, Municipal Government of St. Petersburg, Cultural Committee of St. Petersburg and State Symphony Orchestra of St. Petersburg. Well-known as a cradle for artists, St. Petersburg is a major city that bridges Europe and Asia. It is of profound significance for St. Petersburg to hold the European International Art Festival this time in the main form of music competition, which will surely promote cultural exchanges between the East and the West.
