Xjtu Researchers Develop Novel Composite Graphene Interlayer

Date: April 1, 2019

A XJTU research team led by associate professor Li Mingtao from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology developed a laminated 2D g-C3N4/graphene cathode interlayer and Lithium-Sulfur batteries with enhanced cycling performance. The research result was published in the internationally renowned journal, ChemSusChem, as the front cover article, under the title Enhanced Cycling Performance for Lithium-Sulfur Batteries by a Laminated 2Dg - C3N4/Graphene Cathode Interlayer. XJTU lecturer Qu Long is the first author. Associate professor Li Mingtao is the first corresponding author. Professor Dai Sheng from Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the joint corresponding author.

The research team creates a laminated 2D g-C3N4/graphene interlayer resembling a multilayer “shark net” between cathode and anode of battery. The interlayer suppresses diffusion of polysulfide species from the cathode to the anode, enhances Li+ diffusion coefficient, and significantly enhances battery cycling performance. This paper is of guiding significance for improving electrochemical performance of Lithium–Sulfur batteries and its industrialization.

The research team led by associate professor Li Mingtao has been consistently devoted to the development and application of novel anode material of rechargeable batteries and solid electrolytes of the Li-ion battery. The team has recently published multiple papers in internationally recognized SCI-indexed journals.
