Chinese Universities Top Natural-Science Index Annual Tables 2023: Both in Share and Institutional Level
Chinese universities have been making huge progress in these decades under the instructions of Chinese governments; under the projects like "985", "211" and "Double First-Class" initiative, more and more Chinese universities are appearing in higher positions in QS ranking, but speaking of world-level rankings, most of them are still dominated by institutions from western nations. However, with the release of Nature Index Annual Tables 2023, people can feel more about the progress that Chinese universities are making, they are toping Natural-Science Index Annual Tables after a few years of continuous growth and efforts. 6 out of the top 10 universities in Nature Index Annual Tables 2023 are from China now.
The amount of related publications shared is one of the most important Nature Index’s key metrics. Chinese universities have been positively doing more research and contributing more shares, especially in these years, China is also doing more research related to the coronavirus pandemic.
China’s adjusted Share in the natural sciences(includes subjects like physical sciences, chemistry, Earth and environmental sciences, and biological sciences) soared by more than 21% from 2021 to 2022, which made China comfortably surpass the United States for the first time (see ‘Shifting balance’).
As the number of international publications published by Chines universities increased, China is also dominating the institutional level. Among the top 10 universities in Natural-Science Index, 6 of them are based in China now(They are: Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China(Apply Now), Nanjing University(Apply Now), Peking University(Apply Now), and Tsinghua University(Apply Now)).
And 50% of the top 20 institutions with the highest share scores for natural-science articles in 2022 were Chinese universities. All of them were publishing more articles and achieved huge improvements in their adjusted Share between 2021 and 2022. While universities from other countries are declining.
