In the morning of May 28, 2019 Nanjing Creative Design Week was announced open at Sipailou Campus of Southeast University. A group of globally well-known scholars in the field of cultural and creative design, world-renowned designers and entrepreneurs in the cultural and creative industries, locally renowned designers and cultural celebrities in Nanjing, entrepreneurial representatives in Nanjing cultural and creative industry, representatives of college teachers and students, about 700 persons in total, attended the opening ceremony.

Zhang Jinghua, standing member of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee, Zuo Wei, Secretary of CPC Southeast University Committee, attended the opening ceremony and pressed the “Aureole of Creativity Energizing the City” jointly with Wang Jianguo, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Urban Design Research Center of Southeast University, Marino Folin, former President of Venice Architecture University and Chairman of EMGdotART Foundation, and Xu Lin, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee to announce the official launch of 2019 Nanjing Creative Design Week. Chen Yong, standing member of CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee and Director of the Publicity Department, Xu Shuhai, standing member of CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee and Chief Secretary of CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee, Hu Wanjin, Vice Mayor of Nanjing Municipal People's Government, and Ding Hui, standing member of CPC Southeast University Committee and Chief Accountant of Southeast University, also attended the opening ceremony. At the opening ceremony, the project of “Southeast University · Renowned Design City of Nanjing” was officially released. The project was officially launched in September last year and has combined high-level design disciplines with the design advantages of Xuanwu District. Upon the guidance of modern high-end smart design industry system, the project would cluster superior design industry resources in the surrounding nearly 4.5 km² so as to create a renowned city highlighting modern high-quality design.

Southeast University’s alumnus Zhang Yuxing, Dai Chun, the founder of Let's Talk Forum of the School of Architecture, Bi Yue, Creative Director of Beijing Design Week and Baita Temple Recycling Program, Nick Lambert, Chairman of British Computer Art Society and Research Director of Ravensbourne College of Design And Communication, and Cheng Xiangru, cultural creativity master in Taiwan design industry, proposed advices and suggestions for the reconstruction of Nanjing urban stock space and the “City of Cultural Creativity Center”.

At the opening ceremony, Xu Shuhai and Ding Hui unveiled the Secretariat of the Asian Heritage Management Society. The “Asian Heritage Management Society” was established in 2001 by UNESCO and the International Research Centre for the Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Relics to establish an alliance among important heritage education institutions in Asia, promote innovation and cooperation. In November 2018, in view of the continuous outstanding contributions and excellent achievements made by Southeast University, UNESCO officially decided to settle the Secretariat of the Asian Heritage Management Society in Southeast University.

On the site, the ceremony of two overseas collaborative innovation centers of Nanjing, namely, the Florence Fashion Design Center and the Venice Architecture Design Center was convened. At the same time, on the basis of “Nanjing Universities Creative Industry Alliance” established in 2018 Nanjing Creative Design Week, Nanjing City further integrated the creative resources of local universities this year and launched the “Creative Universities Alliance Program”. The School of Art of Southeast University is one of the representatives of the said Creative Universities Alliance. A number of key projects in the cultural and creative industry were also announced on the spot.

Nanjing Creative Design Week, as a unique event brand on the Nanjing series of cultural exchange services platform, has been developed for four years. The theme of the “Creative Design Week” this year is “Creativity Energizes the City”. Thus a series of brilliant activities will be developed from May 27 to June 2 to explore the integration of creativity and industry, creativity and life.
