IBSS launches MSc International Financial Management Programme

Date: June 22, 2017

International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University has announced that the new programme of MSc International Financial Management has received full validation.

The new programme is designed not only for those who studied accounting and finance at undergraduate level, but also for non-specialists from various disciplines who want to pursue careers in accounting, finance, and financial management in international business.

The 18 month full-time programme will begin in September 2017 and leads to a masters degree from the University of Liverpool. It will equip students with the essential skills needed to work effectively in today's global business environment.

“This programme is a response to the growing trend of the internationalisation of corporations,” said Professor Jean Chen, dean of IBSS. “It is particularly appealing to multinational firms who wish to do business in China, and for Chinese firms going abroad. I feel confident and excited that IBSS can provide such a programme to meet market demand.”

“The programme is a response both to the trend in internationalisation and to the global financial strategies of firms in China,” said Dr Brian Wright, director of the programme. “Of particular interest in China right now are the subject areas of financial risk management, access to financial markets, and the role of the Chinese banking industry in the international expansion of Chinese firms.”

“The programme will enable graduate students to benefit from an interdisciplinary approach, an international environment, and a practice-based learning approach,” he added.

The programme covers a range of topics that allow students to make steady progress, beginning with acquiring the fundamental skills of accounting and finance, followed by more advanced skills like business planning, international corporate reporting and analysis, corporate finance, and financial risk management.

Dr Peng Cheng, head of the Accounting and Finance Division of IBSS, highlighted the contribution of the new programme to the strategic development of the Business School, saying: “We believe the MSc International Financial Management programme will further increase the focus of the Accounting and Finance Division on high-quality academic work and research outputs, some of which will be in the discipline of international financial management, and possibly in connection with other departments at XJTLU.”

Many potential students have inquired and applied for the programme since recruitment began in March. Applicants were extremely optimistic about future career prospects after completing the programme, seeing it as the best choice for a transition from a non-finance profession to professional accounting and finance work.
