Organized by the International Exchange Division of State Ethnic Affairs Commission (SEAC), a series of lectures on Essential Qualities for International Conferenceswereheldby the International Exchange Department of Southwest University for Nationalities (SWUN) from 4thto 6th July 2016.
The Keynote Speaker was Professor Pan Bangzheng, Director of Center for Asian Studies of Chu Hai College of Higher Education, Hong Kong. The lectures also had the attendance of faculties in charge of international exchange from universities affiliated to SEAC as well as universities in Sichuan province. Deans of collegesinSWUN, secretaries of foreign affairs, as well as staff in the International Exchange Department and a host of students took part in the lectures.
Prof. Pan obtained his Doctorate at University of Auckland, New Zealand after he attained his BA and MA at Taiwan University. He once worked asvisiting scholar in Institute of Politics Studies, University of Auckland, as a visiting research fellow in the Hoover Institution, Stanford University and as guest professor at Nanjing University. He is currently director of the Center for Asian Studies of Chu Hai College of Higher Education, Hong Kong.
The lectures were dividedinto5 sessions, covering 1) forms and procedures of international conferences, 2) different roles in conferences and their correspondent English expressions, 3) planning and executions of international conferences, 4) structures and operations of conventional conferences as well as 5) preparation, organization, and management of international conferences. The five well-organized sessions of lectures were delivered in an interactive and humorous way, with a high level of professionalism and appeal to the audience.
The lectures not only familiarized the faculties and students of SWUNwith the preparation, organization, and management of international conferences and with the constituent elements of high-quality ones, but also informed them of essential qualities and important skills for attending international academic conferences and making presentations at them. Faculties from other universities spoke highly of the lectures and extended their gratitude to SWUN for providing the platform and resources.
