Date: April 30, 2018

International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University held a new site opening ceremony to celebrate the relocation of its new building on the South Campus.

Professor Youmin Xi, executive president of XJTLU, and Professor Jean Chen, dean of IBSS, attended the ceremony to celebrate this important moment in IBSS history with guests, staff and students on-site.

Professor Xi said that the modern building demonstrates the internationalisation of IBSS. He hoped that IBSS will seek more interaction with business and become a truly world leading business school integrating best practice of east and west and cultivating business talents with entrepreneurship.

He also encouraged IBSS to continue to utilise the ‘Hexie’ theory as an influence in its teaching and research.

Professor Chen extended her appreciation to all the attendees and welcomed everyone to utilise the facilities of the new building.
Introducing the achievements of IBSS in the academic year 2016-2017 academic year, she emphasised that as a research-led business school, IBSS has achieved considerable development in research in recent years, especially in 2017.

“The opening of this new building symbolises a new beginning for IBSS and it will inspire us to move towards even higher goals,” said Professor Chen.

The new building has a total of 85 classrooms, including 13 Harvard-style terrace classrooms and a lecture hall with a capacity of 500 people. It will provide a world-class advanced teaching and learning environment to over 2,800 undergraduate students, 1,000 postgraduate students and 90 PhD students.

IBSS will celebrate its fifth anniversary on 11 May and the opening of the new building marks the start of the fifth anniversary celebrations which will include numerous activities and events taking place between April and May. These will include a seminar on financial research and practice, a data analysis and business strategy competition, a human resources conference, and an Asia-Pacific economic international seminar.

IBSS was established in 2013 and has grown from 40 to the current 130 staff. It is the youngest business school ever globally to earn accreditation in 2016 by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

It is now focused on acquiring European Quality Improvement System certification (EQUIS) and aims to become the youngest business school in the world to receive this accreditation.
