On December 26, 2013, Pearl Scholarship for International Education, the first enterprise-funded scholarship solely for international education in Shaanxi province, was awarded at Shaanxi Normal University, and 34 international students from 15 different countries and nine of their teachers received certificates and awards at a ceremony held at the Congyu Building on Shaanxi Normal University's Yanta campus.

The annual scholarship is initiated by the Shaanxi private enterprise “Mingzhu (Pearl) International Group” in 2013, which will provide 100,000 yuan fund to Shaanxi Normal University in its education of foreign students. The awarded students are commended for their diligence and excellence in studies and the awarded teachers for their professionalism and dedication in teaching.

It is not only the university’s first enterprise-funded scholarship for international students studying in China, but also the first of this kind in Shaanxi province.

In addition to the 43 awardees, Mr. Li Jihe, board chairman of Mingzhu International Group, Mr. Wang Tao, vice-president of the university, Mr. Xu Feng, director of International Programs Office, Mr. Liu JIanbin, secretary-general of Educational Foundation, other guests, teachers and students of International School of Chinese Studies attended the ceremony.

Mr. Zhang Jiancheng, dean of the International School of Chinese Studies, briefed the audience of the background to the Mingzhu Scholarship and presented a souvenir to Mingzhu Group on behalf of the university.

Mr. Li Jihe said at the ceremony that as a successful enterprise in Shaanxi province, Mingzhu Group recognizes the importance of international vision, and in the meantime it values its social responsibility. To set up such a scholarship for international students is a way to repay society and to spread this vision and responsibility through the cooperation with a prestigious institution like Shaanxi Normal University.

Mr. Wang Tao thanked Mr. Li Jihe and said that this scholarship will surely pay off as it helps spread the warmth and friendship to the world through these awarded foreign students.

Russian student Krekhtunova Natalia, Kazak student Anvatov Tokhir spoke on behalf of the awarded students and Ms. Wang Xiaoyin spoke on behalf of the teachers receiving the award.

During the ceremony, one of the awarded foreign students presented flowers to Mr. Li Jihe to express their gratitude and they also presented the audience with their performances.
