In the morning of January 6, President Qiao Jianyong met with Prof. Zhores I. Alferov, Nobel Laureate, the great master of the“111” International Academic Talents Base, Honorary Director of the State Key Laboratory of Information Photonics and Optical Communications (BUPT), Director of the Chinese-Russian Joint Laboratory of Information Optoelectronics and Nanoheterostructures, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and the Rector of the RAS St. Petersburg Academic University, as well as Mr. M.V. Dubina, the First Vice-Rector of the RAS St. Petersburg Academic University and the academic specialist of the“111” International Academic Talents Base. Prof. REN Xiaomin, Vice President of BUPT, also participated in the meeting.

President Qiao expressed his warm welcome to Prof. Zhores I. Alferov and congratulated him on his winning of the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the PRC. President Qiao highly appreciated Prof. Alferov’s support to BUPT’s academic research, international communication and education, and expected Prof. Alferov’s more future visit to BUPT as a deep friendship exists between China and Russia. Prof. Alferov was very grateful for the congratulation and warm hospitality, and said that BUPT is a very famous university with deep feeling to BUPT, and appreciated the support of BUPT to the State Key Laboratory of Information Photonics and Optical Communications and the Chinese-Russian joint Laboratory. Both President Qiao and Prof. Alferov considered that international communication is very important strength to the development of science and technology, and world-class achievements are originated in enhancement of communication. Both universities will strengthen the cooperation in undergraduate education and cooperative programs for the next step.

Ms. XIN Lingling, Assistant to President and Director of General Office, Ms. REN Chunxia, Director of International Office, Mr. LIU Yuan’an, Dean of the Institute of Electronic Engineering, Ms. WANG Xia, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institute of Information and Communication Engineering, Mr. ZHANG Jie, Vice Dean of the Institute of Information and Communication Engineering and others also joined the meeting.
