Recently, Professor Jaishankar Raman from Valparaiso University, the USA, visited Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT) for a week, anddelivered academic lectures at the College of Economics and Management, ZJUT.

During his first lecture, which was titled ‘China as a Trade Leader in the 21^st Century: Opportunities and Challenges’, he analyzed the share of export in different regionssince 1948, and the reasons behind the soaringup in China.

Then he went on analyzing the challenges brought by the ‘New Normal’ in China’s economic development. Later on, he exchanged ideas with teachers and studentspresent.

In his second lecture, ‘Doctoral Training Systemin American Universities and the Publication of High-End Papers’, Prof. Raman introduced the doctoral training modes, contents, standards and academic requirements of American universities; he also compared the similarities and differences of doctoral student training in China and the United States.

Besides, he made numerous helpful suggestions and a very operative approach to publishing high-end papers.
