On February 24th, 2019, SDUT held its 4th (enlarged) session of the 3rd Party Committee in the conference room on the second floor of the North Building of Xingyuan Hotel, analyzing the school’s performance in 2018, making working plans for 2019, and reviewing the school’s conducts in terms of Party building, reform and development, and the implementation of the principles of “One spirit” and “One plan”.

Those present at the meeting included school leaders—LYU Chuanyi, ZHANG Tiezhu, YI Yuchen, HU Xingyu, LIU Guohua, ZHANG Xiangyun, WANG Libin, WEI Xiuting, ZHA Yuxi, YI Weiming and ZHANG Jinsheng, members of the school’s Party Committee, Commission for Discipline Inspection, Academic Committee, Professorship Committee, and leaders with middle ranks.

On behalf of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, ZHANG Tiezhu, President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of SDUT, made a work report to the Committee, analyzing its performance in 2018 and making plans for 2019.

ZHANG Tiezhu pointed out that 2018 was the year of carrying out the tasks in depth based on the principles of “One spirit” and “One plan”. “The school Party Committee managed to fulfill its main responsibility for managing and running the university based on relevant goals and requirements, weld together all the Party members and a majority of outside-of-the-Party staff, focus on raising development quality and carrying out relevant work in depth, through which our school made new achievements and new breakthroughs in all aspects” commented Zhang. “And we have accomplished all we set to do in terms of Party building, personnel team building, discipline construction, quality personnel training, scientific research, University-City integrated development, improved management of and service for students, and increased competence of sustainable development.”

ZHANG Tiezhu stressed that 2019 would be the year of implementing school work in depth, which was crucial to promoting quality development and completing the tasks based on the principles of “One spirit” and “One plan”. The school president continued, “It is necessary to work harder on prioritizing personnel, constructing disciplines and conducting scientific research, training personnel, stimulating endogenous development, providing students with quality education, management services, providing strong logistical support, and seeing Party self-governance exercised with rigor.”

After that, school leaders YI Yuchen, HU Xingyu, LIU Guohua, ZHANG Xiangyun, WANG Libin, WEI Xiuting, ZHA Yuxi, YI Weiming, and ZHANG Jinsheng discussed working thoughts and methods as regards the work they are in charge of, and summarized the work that had been done in the year of 2018.

Finally, LYU Chuanyi, Secretary of the Party Committee of SDUT, made a concluding speech, analyzing higher education of China. 

LYU proposed that we should be ready to turn crises to chances, danger to safety, to keep abreast of new strategic opportunities, to take the lead in and make due contribution to boosting economyy and society.

Regarding the current tasks, the Secretary pointed out that both the Central Economic Work Conference and the Shandong Provincial Economic Work Conference had made plans for economic development for Shandong and even the whole nation. “To serve the economy and society is one of the most important purposes of education. SDUT has to take the initiative of providing service for economic and social development of the country in accordance with the specific deployment requirements,” said LYU. “We ought to study the recently-issued directives of ‘Modernized Education in China 2035’ and ‘Schemes for modernizing Chinese education (2018-2022),’ which clarify the strategic goals and tasks, implementation paths and major tasks for modernizing education. Based upon this, we have to draw up measures to provide quality education in quick successive of modernization.”

As regards Party building and how to implement relevant policies accordingly, LYU pointed out that,“First, we should build a Party team composed of qualified leaders.It is necessary to analyze assessment results and reassign, optimize, promote some leaders and treat them like a wheel in the light of the results; the general Party branches should recommend candidates with a great vision of the whole Party.”

“Second, we should ensure tight hold of the work of spreading correct political thoughts in all fields.  It is necessary to organize a big event to discuss ‘What should I do for our school?’ and inspire everyone to forge ahead with all the enthusiasm and full of vigor. We should work together to get rid of conflicts and thus enhance cohesiveness, and encourage people to learn from the role models around them.We will organize various recreational and sports activities to ensure physical fitness in buoyant moods among teachers and students.”said LYU.

“Third, we should take tight hold of the construction of work style. We ought to get round to implementing relevant policies by cutting the number of meetings to a minimum. We could study problems at work and find effective solutions to the problems. We must stick to a baseline thinking, keep in mind what we cannot do, and remain daring, innovative and honest,”the Secretary concluded.
