On 5 December, at the 24th Conference of the Contracting Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24), held in Katowitz, Poland, the theme of "Tripolar Environment and Climate Change" (here in after referred to as "Tripolar Plan") was held side by side under the auspices of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Wu Yuanbin, Director of the Department of Social Development and Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Sun Zheng, Vice-Director of the Department of Climate Change of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and Professor He Jiankun, former Vice-President of Tsinghua University attended the meeting. The delegation from the Global Change and Earth System Science Institute of Beijing Normal University attended the meeting. Professor Cheng Xiao presided over the side event and made a keynote report.

In his speech, Wu Yuanbin pointed out that the "three poles" are an important barrier to the global ecological environment and a sensitive and vulnerable area to climate change. They are related to the construction of a community of human destiny. International scientists are welcome to participate. Sun Zheng said that the "three poles" is an important issue related to the construction of global ecological civilization and has important research value.

Cheng Xiao briefed on the purpose and significance of the meeting, and highlighted the implementation of the "Tripolar Plan" being promoted by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Experts from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Andean Federation and Peking University also made presentations.

Through this side meeting, the "Tripolar Plan" has been further promoted, the international community has further understood the main idea of the plan, and has received high attention from scholars, officials, media organizations and non-governmental organizations at home and abroad, thus creating a good international atmosphere for the further implementation of the " Tripolar Plan" in China.
