Nov 13 – On November 10^th, the 4^thHIWIN Doctoral Dissertation Award was held in Xi’an. Ma Guangyi, tutored by Professor Wu Dongjiang, from School of Mechanical Engineering won the bronze award with his dissertationProcess Basis on Laser Wielding of Hastelloy Alloy Sheet for Nuclear Main Pump Shielding.Gao Shang, tutored by Professor Kang Renke, won the excellent award with his dissertationStudy of Process Basis on Ultra-precision Grinding of Silicon.

HIWIN Doctoral Dissertation Award rewards PhD students and their tutors from mechanical engineering and automatic field, especially precision machinery inChina(includingTaiwan,Hong Kongand Aomen). Organized and sponsored by HIWIN Technologies Corp. and co-organized by Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES), the award ceremony was held at the annual meeting of CMES. This year, the convener of selection committee was Song Tianhu, chief supervisor of CMES and the convener of appraisal committer was Guo Dongming, vice director of CMES. This award aims at improving the level of manufacturing technology, encouraging innovation, promoting interaction between business circle and academic circle and thus accomplishing the improvement and innovation of mechanical engineering technology.

This year’s HIWIN Doctoral Dissertation Award selected 121 dissertations from more than 1500 dissertations last year. And after first examination, review and final examination, 29 PhD students and 34 tutors from 19 universities, including National Tsing Hua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Dalian University of Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, National Taiwan University, South China University of Technology, had been rewarded. Among them there were one gold award, two silver awards, four bronze awards, seven excellent awards and fifteen honorable awards.
