University Chancellor Zhang Yibin explored possibilities of cooperation in the afternoon of March 9 with president and vice presidents of University of Munich, Germany, who were visiting Nanjing University’s Xianlin Campus.

President Bernt Huber and Vice Presidents Hans Eisse and Sigmund Stimson, in charge of academic and foreign affairs, respectively, met the leadership of Nanjing University under the framework of LMU-China Academic Network (LMU-ChAN).

Nanjing University’s Vice Chancellor Zhu Qingbao, Vice President Pan Yi, and the Assistant President Pu Lijie attended the meeting.

Chancellor Zhang Yibin welcomed President Huber on his first visit and briefly introduced the history and development of Nanjing University.

He pointed out that Nanjing University, as a comprehensive university, has ranked among the best in China in the fields of basic research in humanities and social sciences and natural sciences, and that international exchange and cooperation is one of the university’s traditions.

The university, said Zhang, has maintained a stable relationship with many first-class universities in Germany such as Freie Universität Berlin, George-August-University of Göttingen, and Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, and has also offered some special projects like the “Elite German Language Class.”

He hopes that the university will enhance the cooperation in personnel exchange and scientific research with the University of Munich through the channel of LMU-ChAN.

President Huber said that he was impressed by Xianlin Campus and pointed out that Nanjing University is an important partner of his university and that the universities have shared in common many concepts and practice in university and disciplinary development.

He hoped that both sides will carry out further cooperation in specific areas through China Academic Network.
