Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University has debuted at number 79 in the first QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) rankings of Mainland China universities released on October 11.

The result reflects XJTLU’s impressive achievements in its short twelve-year history, with the University placed among some of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the country.

The rankings are determined through a range of criteria including academic reputation (30 percent), employer evaluation (20 percent), staff-student rate (20 percent), staff with a PhD (10 percent), papers per staff published (10 percent), citations per paper (five percent), percentage of international students (2.5 percent) and percentage of international staff (2.5 percent).

QS publishes a number of university rankings throughout the year, including the annual World University Rankings. As the only international higher education ranking body to receive International Ranking Expert Group (IREG) approval, the QS rankings are considered one of the three most widely read university rankings in the world, along with the Academic Ranking of World Universities and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
